Many types of hardwired intercoms are still available today, including handset phones style systems, loudspeaking box intercoms, paging intercoms, and video intercoms. These systems typically use dedicated system wiring and can be a mix of master and remote stations.
For relatively short distance requirements wireless intercoms using radio communications techniques have been available for years and are still available for use if conditions are suitable for their use.
IP Intercom systems take advantage of existing IP networks found everywhere in the corporate environment today, and thus require little or no new wiring to function. Additionally, communications required over large distances (ie: multi-city) are handle easily over existing Internet and VPN connections.
A public address or "PA" system is an electronic amplification system with a mixer, amplifier and loudspeakers, used to reinforce a given sound, e.g., a person making a speech, prerecorded music, or message, and distributing the sound throughout a venue.
Distributed Amplified Technology was designed specially for the telephone/datacom world! Each one-way paging speaker provides a built-in amplifier and volume control. These speakers are essentially independent public address systems that can be networked together. This building block concept allows easy system configuration and flexible modification as customer needs change.
